How does lint buildup relate to dryer repair, you ask? Just look inside your dryer, or the outside dryer vent exhaust outside.

As an appliance technician since 2009 we have seen it all. We have been working in the boise area, and all over the valley seeing the same issues day in and day out. In our experience it’s obvious that dryer fires are a real thing! But for those that don’t see dryer fires, perhaps they are the beneficiaries of a failed fuse or heating element in the dryer. It could be as simple as an annual or biannual cleaning of the dryer and dryer vent. Believe it or not, a clogged dryer vent is the leading cause to failure in the dryer, let alone having a dryer fire.

There are many moving parts in the dryer such as the drum support rollers, the idler pulley, belt, and motor. There is a sequence of issues that are caused by a clogged dryer vent, or dirty dryer cavity. The motor is attached to the blower fan, and the belt. If the fan has resistance with pushing air out of the dryer vent, it would put stress on the motor, and increase the amp draw. Which in turn may cause the fuse to fail. That could also cause over heating in the cavity of the dryer, and force lint to escape into the cavity. When lint escapes it it settles on the heating element and binds up on the the wheels. There may be an escalation of issues that could cause failure in the dryer. Just remember some of the early signs of failure in the dryer are the clothes are not drying completely, or the dryer is overheating. The ability for the dryer to move air through the dryer vent is a huge part of maintaining the dryer.

We offer a dryer and dryer vent cleaning as a proactive approach to not only preserving the dryer and it’s moving parts, but also avoiding a dryer fire. There are over 3000 dryer fires that turn into home fires reported to FEMA every year. As an appliance tech we have seen 8 dryer fires that weren’t reported to The fire department, let alone FEMA. Our slogan is “A Minor fix to avoid a major Catastrophe“.  Don’t be a FEMA statistic.
